Hermetic technology is a method that uses airtight and moisture-proof materials to store dry agricultural commodities that are vulnerable to deterioration when exposed to air, moisture, or contaminants.
-
Hermetic technology works by creating a controlled atmosphere within the stored commodities. This reduces the oxygen levels inside the bag or container, limiting the growth of insects, mold, and bacteria.
-
Hermetic technology is applied in GrainPro Bags, Pouches, Cocoons, and TranSafeliners (container liners).
-
Hermetic storage can significantly extend the shelf life of dry commodities by preventing moisture absorption, insect infestation, and mold growth. Depending on the type of commodity, its moisture content, and storage conditions, properly dried commodities can be safely stored for months to a year or more.
-
To ensure safe storage and prevent mold growth, dry commodities should generally have a moisture content of 12% or lower before being sealed in hermetic solutions. Some commodities may require slightly lower moisture levels for optimal preservation. See the table below for recommended moisture content by commodity.
