Responding to the need for large volume fumigation of high-value commodities, GrainPro has developed and field tested an intergrated system, PITS™, (which stands for Pesticide-free Integrated Transportation and Storage) that provides for:

rapid fumigation for disinfestation, transportation, and safe storage.

It begins with a special rapid-loading Cocoon™, called a PITS Tunnel™, in which disinfestation is accomplished using vacuum, and whose load capacity matches that of a 20-foot shipping container. The design allows handling of skid-mounted commodities using a fork truck. To protect the commodity from reinfestation and from ingress of moisture, a TranSafeliner (TSL) can be used inside the 20 foot or 40 foot container. Transportation is easy because these skids can be put in standard 20’-40’ shipping containers using forklifts. The tunnel shape structure is made of flexible reinforced PVC having a “clam” shape door at the front and a vacuum inlet at one of the sides. During loading the “tunnel” is held up by means of rubber bungi bands connected to a galvanized metal frame. A protective layer of 20 mm plywood, thick rubber mats or other flat, smooth and strong material is placed at the bottom of the tunnel. Pallets are loaded into the tunnel which after closing the “clamshell” door will become a vacuum “chamber”.

For outdoor use or use in a warehouse.

For total pesticide-free protection of commodities "from producer to customer" - a "green" technology. The PITS 20 & 40 systems utilize one or two (nominal) 20-tonne (33m3) capacity Cocoons™ respectively to allow seamless transition from safe multi-month, airtight storage to full airtight protection during intercontinental transport in 20- or 40-foot shipping containers, PITS system for cobined storage and transport are typically used for dry commodities such as cocoa, coffee, seeds or rice that need protection against the effects of the growth of FFA's, moisture, insects, molds, and rodents. Or, depending on your application handling can be manual or by pallet load using forklifts.
